    Overview

Avaza Tourist Zone is Turkmenistan's planned beach resort on the Caspian Sea. The complex has hotels, beaches, and recreational facilities, built as a tourism project on the coast near Turkmenbashi.

The zone covers more than 15 kilometers of coastline. It has several five-star hotels, private beaches, a golf course, marinas, and entertainment complexes.

The coast is milder than inland Turkmenistan. Most beach visits are from May to September, when the water is warmest. Hotels also host conferences outside the peak swimming months.

    Development History

The Avaza tourist zone was laid out in 2009 on the Caspian coast near Turkmenbashi as a planned beach resort. Hotels, roads, utilities, and recreation were built along more than 15 kilometers of shoreline that had been a quiet coastal area.

The build included hotels, beaches, a marina, sports facilities, and conference halls. Some properties are run by international hotel operators.

The zone is a purpose-built resort rather than a historic port town. Turkmenbashi city and its airport sit about 12 kilometers away.

Today Avaza has hotels, marinas, and recreation along more than 15 kilometers of Caspian coastline, used for beach stays in the warmer months and for meetings year-round.
